Tele-tool of note: Videoconferencing

The author reports on the use of videoconferencing for educating and supporting palliative care professionals. His work in the IMPaCT (Interactive Multimedia Palliative Care Training) project, began in 1997 to assess the practicalities of videoconferencing in palliative care and its educational effectiveness. During the first 2 years of the project, 22 sites were linked worldwide, reaching 136 professionals who did not have to incur costs or devote time needed to travel. The author reports on the ease of establishing the technical links as well as the range of uses for the new medium by palliative care professionals, such as using videoconferencing in journal clubs and in expert workshops.
